The SPCA of Texas is reopening its Jan Reese-Jones Animal Care Center today for adoptions. Normal hours are 12:00 noon through 6:00 pm, seven days a week.
That location and two other SPCA shelters in north Texas have been closed for several weeks because of an outbreak of canine distemper.
The reopening today only applies to the Jan Reese-Jones Animal Care Center and is only for adoptions. The facility can not take in any new animals yet.
The SPCA's Russell E. Dealey Animal Rescue Center and Ellis County Animal Care Center still have dogs that are testing positive for the canine distemper virus. so those locations will remain closed for at least the next two weeks.
