Van Zandt County (1080 KRLD) - The SPCA of Texas has removed a dozen dogs from a mobile home in Van Zandt County after their owner was arrested earlier this month.
The animals were found in terrible conditions after the man failed to make arrangements for their care while he was behind bars. The dogs' owner had been in jail since June 6th.
The Van Zandt County Sheriff's Office learned about the animals on June 11th and notified the SPCA. Investigators visited the property on Saturday, June 12th. They found the animals living inside a trailer filled with urine and feces. They were also under-fed and had a variety of health problems.
The owner of the dogs agreed to surrender custody to the SPCA. He's still in the Van Zandt County Jail and could face animal cruelty charges in the case.
The dogs were all taken to the SPCA of Texas' Russell E. Dealey Animal Rescue Center. They will receive medical care until they are healthy enough to be adopted.
