Marvel Comics and Lucasfilm Publishing will publish the first official crossover between the Star Wars and Marvel universes in a five-issue limited series launching in January 2027.
According to Entertainment Weekly and Marvel’s official announcement, Star Wars/Marvel: Hope Assembles is written by Kevin Smith with art by David Marquez. The series brings Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Han Solo and Chewbacca into Marvel’s primary Earth-616 continuity, where they encounter heroes including Captain America, Black Widow, Spider-Man and the Hulk. Marvel villains such as Doctor Doom will cross paths with Darth Vader and the Galactic Empire.
The story is timed to the 50th anniversary of Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope. In the series, Earth’s Mightiest Heroes witness events from A New Hope unfolding on Earth after a reality-shattering spell. Issues will release monthly, with the final installment scheduled for May 2027.
Michael Siglain, creative director at Lucasfilm Publishing, called the project a love letter to both franchises. Kevin Smith said he had long wanted to see Marvel characters interact with the Star Wars cast and was “ecstatic” to write the series. Marvel Editor-in-Chief Stephen Wacker noted the decades-long relationship between the two properties.
Marvel has published Star Wars comics since 1977. This marks the first time the characters from both universes will share a single story within Marvel’s main continuity.
