Budding chefs, now is the time to hone your cooking skills and Big Tex wants to sample some of your culinary masterpieces!
The State Fair of Texas is back for 2021, and so are the cooking contests.
"Categories for these cooking contests range anywhere from a traditional pie contest to State Fair favorites like Texas pecan challenge or the Tex-Mex contest," says Karissa Condoianis, senior vice president of public relations of the State Fair of Texas.
In all, there will be 14 contests spread across the fair's 24-day run.
"By spreading these competitions out across all 24 days, it allows us to be able to have as many people as want to enter this year," says Condoianis.
While not required, people entering the contests are urged to pre-register at BigTex.com/CreativeArts, where they can download the 2021 Cooking Contest handbook as well. (Please turn that into a link)
"You cook your food and you bring it up to the Creative Arts Building at the State Fair of Texas to be judged that day. You enter your food the day of entry, bring your prepared dish and be ready to go for judging."
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Big Tex BBQ & Chili Challenge and the cook-offs will not be held this year.
