Big Tex's boots aren't the only thing changing at the State Fair this year. The State Fair of Texas is doing all they can to keep you and your family safe at Fair Park with several new safety rules.

Some of the safety measures rolling out this year include new weapon detection systems, new Dallas Fire and Rescue and temperature control units, and a new policy for minors attending the fair.

Commander of the State Fair Police Force, Tina Schultz, says these changes come from conversations around fair safety earlier this year.

"Some of the things we discussed were police issues, weather issues, and medical emergencies in order to make sure we provide a safe and fun environment," she said.

One of the most notable changes is the fair's new policy on minors. Anyone in attendance under 18-years-old will now need to be accompanied by an adult 21 or older in order to gain entrance.

State Fair of Texas spokeswoman Karissa Condoianis explained why the fair decided to include this new policy.

"Different incidents that happen throughout the country - an incident that happened here last year... We want to ensure that people are out here to have a good time and a safe time," she said.

Condoianis noted that once minors are through the gate with their chaperone, they do not have to stay together.

Another safety measure being implemented is the increase of Dallas ISD officers on school visit days.

"Because of the relationship we have built with our kids, it gives us the opportunity to work with them and maybe even deter some things from happening," Dallas ISD Police Chief John Lawton said.

Dallas Fire and Rescue will also be providing emergency medical services at Fair Park, which Section Chief Scott Clumpner says is also a new safety measure being added this year.

"We don't wanna see anyone have an emergency, but I want them to feel confident that if they do, DFR will have paramedics and make sure that you receive the best treatment possible," he said.
