An Arlington woman who has been held by ICE for several months spoke out Thursday after being released this week.
22-year-old Ward Sakeik was placed in ICE detention after she returned from her honeymoon in February.
She claims she never knew her Visa had expired after coming to the U.S. as an 8-year-old and she did have a Work Authorization I.D.
"As a matter of fact, I did not choose to come here," Sakeik said. "As an eight-year-old I had no clue what a Visa was. As a matter of fact, I do not remember any of the court proceedings."
Sakeik is a stateless woman of Palestinian descent.
The Department of Homeland Security says she was released after filing the appropriate paperwork.
Her lawyers say the government tried unlawfully to deport her in violation of a temporary restraining order.
