If you visit with your mom this Mother's Day weekend, a casual but important health discussion may be in order.
A new report from the doctors' primary care network MDVIP said 94% of women surveyed nationally could not pass an IQ quiz on basic health knowledge.
MDVIP's Dr. Andrea Klemes told KRLD News most women are not aware that heart disease is the top killer of females in America. Most, she said, are much more concerned over arthritis and cancer.
Dr. Klemes also said their study found many women feel they are being dismissed when they try to discuss health concerns with their doctors.
Dr. Klemes did spotlight one positive in the report. She said a majority of respondents say they are more resilient as a result of the pandemic experience. Her hope is that women will educate themselves on personal health, and be more aggressive in expressing their medical concerns.
Dr. Klemes spoke with KRLD's Chris Sommer.
