Interstate 20 and Interstate 35 in North Texas were among the roadways drivers are most likely to avoid when bad weather strikes, according to a new survey.

The survey by RV Windshield Replacement.com asked more than 3,000 Texas drivers which roads they try to stay off during severe weather. Interstate 20 topped the list.

Stretching west from Dallas, Interstate 20 was cited for its exposure to winter weather, including ice storms and strong winds. Long distances between exits can add to the risk, making the highway especially challenging during hazardous conditions.

Second on the list was U.S. Route 87 in the Texas Panhandle. Drivers pointed to blowing snow, extreme wind chills, and sudden whiteouts that can quickly reduce visibility and make travel dangerous.

Interstate 35 ranked third, particularly in North Texas. Freezing rain, ice-covered overpasses, and heavy traffic can turn the busy corridor into a slow and stressful drive. Many local drivers said they often delay travel rather than risk slick conditions on the roadway.

The survey results reflect common winter-weather concerns across the state, where rapidly changing conditions can make even major highways difficult to navigate.
