The landmark Neiman Marcus store at 1618 Main Street in downtown Dallas is scheduled to close for good on Sept. 30, 2026, parent company Saks Global has confirmed.
A Saks Global spokesperson told NBC 5 and Women’s Wear Daily the decision is final after talks with the city ended. “After a thorough evaluation, we have made the difficult decision to close the Neiman Marcus Downtown Dallas store on September 30, 2026 and concentrate our resources where our customers prefer to shop,” the company said in a statement.
Saks Global acquired Neiman Marcus at the end of 2024 and later filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The downtown store nearly closed in early 2025 amid a lease dispute, The Dallas Morning News reported, but stayed open through the holidays and into 2026. Saks said NorthPark Center does more than 10 times the business of the downtown store and that shoppers “consistently choose” that location.
The company plans to move historic touches to NorthPark, including reimagining the café there as the Zodiac Room, according to WWD and People Newspapers. Bridal customers with active orders will be served at NorthPark. Transfer offers will be extended where possible; a June WARN notice said 67 jobs were tied to the closing, Chron reported, including some workers who may transfer.
Dallas City Manager Kimberly Bizor Tolbert said in a statement to The Dallas Morning News that the city was “disappointed” and that downtown Neiman’s had been “a cornerstone of our central business district for more than a century.” She said Dallas will keep working with Saks on the site’s future.
The 1907 Dallas-founded retailer helped put the city on the fashion map. The Main Street flagship hosted decades of high-profile events. Its exit comes as downtown faces other shifts, including AT&T’s planned campus departure and the Mavericks’ choice of a Far North Dallas arena site, the Morning News reported.
