One man is dead after getting into a shootout with police in Richland Hills.

It happened on Glenview Drive, right on the border between Richland Hills and North Richland Hills. Police were called to the area after a report of someone shooting at people. When they got there they confronted the man who police say had a rifle. Richland Hills Police Captain Sheena McEachran said at least one officer opened fire.

"The suspect was hit and ultimately deceased," Captain McEachran said. "No other parties were injured and no officers were injured. Medical attention was given to the suspect but he was pronounced."

Police said why the man had a rifle and was shooting is still under investigation. The Texas Rangers are investigating the matter.
