A suspect died in Dallas police custody early Tuesday morning following a traffic stop southeast of downtown, officials say.
An officer ran a license plate near the corner of Jim Miller and Lake June Road at 12:37 a.m. Tuesday, Dallas police said. The plate showed the owner had felony warrants for aggravated sexual assault and burglary.
When the officer stopped the car, police said the driver reported chest pain. Dallas Fire-Rescue was called, and paramedics cleared the driver to be taken into custody.
The driver was taken to Southeast Patrol Station, a few blocks away, for questioning. Police said he started to feel sick, and Dallas Fire-Rescue paramedics were called again. He was pronounced dead at the station.
Dallas police said their Special Investigations Unit is investigating along with the city's Office of Community Police Oversight. The Dallas County District Attorney will also run an investigation.
