A woman was shot dead Saturday morning and the suspect in her shooting later died during an officer-involved confrontation in Mesquite, Texas.
According to the Dallas Police Department, officers responded to the first shooting at about 10:15 a.m. in the 9000 block of Markville Drive. There, they found the female victim with a gunshot wound and determined that the suspect had fled the scene.
“Dallas Fire-Rescue responded and transported the victim to a local hospital where the victim later died,” said a press release from the department.
Then, at about 11:45 a.m., officers conducting surveillance located the suspect in a vehicle near the 18500 block of LBJ Freeway in Mesquite. They conducted a felony traffic stop, but the suspect exited their vehicle. Shots were fired and suspect died on scene. No officers were injured during the incident, per the Dallas Police Department.
“This ongoing investigation will be documented under case number 181463-2025 and 181467-2025,” it added. Mesquite police are expected to investigate the officer-involved shooting as well, under case number 25-110810.
The Dallas County District Attorney’s Office also responded to the scene and will conduct their own investigation. The Office of Community Police Oversight also responded, Dallas police added.
