A man wanted on multiple felony charges was taken into custody after firing at SWAT officers Wednesday during a lengthy standoff in Irving, police say.

Several law enforcement agencies attempted to serve a narcotics warrant for Shane Arterburn at a residence in Irving at the request of the Carrollton Police Department. Arterburn, who has prior convictions related to drugs and weapons, was wanted for felony drug offenses and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon.

Authorities say Arterburn opened fire with a rifle from various concealed positions inside the home as officers approached. SWAT units initially pulled back and attempted to negotiate, but Arterburn continued shooting, according to police.

During the standoff, officers deployed drones, gas, robots, and armored vehicles to gain access to the home. Arterburn was eventually located hiding in a bedroom closet with a rifle still in his hands, but he surrendered without further incident.

No injuries were reported. Arterburn remains in custody, and additional charges are expected.
