Suspected serial rapist caught in south Texas, linked to several North Texas cases

A suspected serial rapist is behind bars this morning, arrested for a cold case out of Fort Worth.

Police say 39-year-old Donell Franklin Oduah is currently in the Refugio County Jail, charged with aggravated sexual assault with a $30,000 bond for raping a Fort Worth woman in 2015.

According to Fort Worth Police, in March 2015 Oduah met the victim at a cabaret located northeast of downtown Fort Worth on Belknap Street. The victim advised that Oduah frequented the club and went by the name “T.” Oduah offered the victim a ride home; they ended up going to a local motel. Oduah did not have any identification, so the victim rented the room. Once inside the room, Oduah forced the victim to perform sex acts at gunpoint.

The Fort Worth police Cold Case Unit got a DNA match with a case out of Dallas that identified Oduah. Working together detectives learned they actually had several CODIS hits on Oduah from 2012 and 2013 -- and Houston Police had five cases that matched him dating back to 2005.

Odua had a 2018 conviction in Houston that required him to register as a sex offender.
