With Mother's Day coming up, the Tarrant Area Food Bank is gearing up to host its second-annual Meals for Moms distribution event … but this time, it will be at the Tarrant Area Food Bank West Distribution Center in Weatherford.
The space is brand new. It's technically not even set to open until September.
"It's the very first event that we're having at this location, in fact we're still under construction there," says Julie Butner, CEO of the Tarrant Area Food Bank. "But we do have plenty of space to offer food distribution."
The Meals for Moms event is open to anyone in need, but it's specifically geared toward moms. Butner says there are enough supplies to give 5,000 families groceries to last about a week. Since this is the new center's first ever event, she says she has no idea what kind of turnout to expect.
"This is the first time we've ever done a distribution of this type in this area, the very first time we've held an event at TAFB West," Butner says. "We encourage anybody who needs food to come on out-- especially if you have a mom in the family that needs help and support."
The event is kicking off at 10:00 a.m. tomorrow, starting with a short address from Sen. Brian Birdwell, who will be serving as "Governor for a Day."
The TAFB West Distribution Center is located at 112 Winners Circle, Weatherford, TX 76087.
Anyone who needs food or wants to donate to the Meals for Moms campaign can do so here.
