Tarrant County Sheriff Bill Weybourn is putting out "Let the Buyer Beware" warning about the sale of stolen pick-up trucks.

For the most part, these are stolen GM trucks and the scammers seem to be targeting Spanish speakers with ads in Spanish across platforms like Facebook.

Weybourn's investigators find the victims are shown fictitious titles and bills-of-sale which look quite legit but turn out to be bogus. Often the Vehicle ID numbers have been altered as well.

The duped buyers don't discover the issue until they try to transfer the title at a DMV office.

Since the "deals" are always cash-only, there is no way for the victims to get their money back.

The Sheriff's office says it's always best to arrange vehicle sales at a "safe exchange zone" like a police station or a DMV parking lot. If the seller seem hesitant to do that, that's a sure sign something is fishy.
