A Grand Prairie teacher faces charges that he had an improper relationship with a student, police say.

Kenrick Burns, a teacher at Grand Prairie High School, was booked into the city jail Wednesday on a charge of "an improper relationship between an educator and a student."

The school district first placed Burns on paid administrative leave but with the arrest, he has turned in his resignation.

Burns was accused of having a relationship with a student who is 18. Even though she's of legal age to consent, state law bans these kinds of personal relationships between students and teachers no matter their ages.
