Gunfire erupted at a Kennedale apartment complex overnight.
When the smoke cleared, a woman was in the hospital, the child she was holding was safe and the teenage girl accused of the shooting was behind bars.
It took a while for Kennedale police to get this all sorted out. They were called by a troubled 17-year-old girl threatening to shoot someone. The officer arrived outside the apartment and found a woman with a gunshot wound in the back, still cradling a two-year-old child who was not hit by the gunfire.
With the gun, police found the teenager. When she started shooting at the police, they fired back but the girl was not struck. She's now locked up on, among other charges, attempted murder.
The woman holding the toddler is in the hospital and reported to be in stable condition. The Kennedale police chief calls the woman the toddler's grandmother, but we don't know how if at all, the teenager is related.
