Mourners gathered on Tuesday to honor Ofc. Jacob Candanoza, who was killed in the line of duty earlier this month. The funeral service took place at 10 a.m. at Lakepointe Church in Rockwall. Following the service, a procession escorted Candanoza's body to the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.
The procession route, shared by the Terrell Police Department, was filled with mourners and supporters lining the streets to bid farewell. Several municipal services in Terrell, including the Municipal Court and Animal Control and Adoption Center, were closed to observe the funeral. Candanoza, who has only been with the Terrell Police Department since July, is remembered for his dedication and infectious smile.
The community is rallying around his family, with a fundraiser organized by the Brotherhood of the Fallen Dallas to support them. Candanoza's father, David, expressed his gratitude for the overwhelming support and shared memories of his son's love for his job and community. The burial at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery is a private ceremony, attended by close family and colleagues.
As the community continues to mourn, they remain united in their commitment to honor Candanoza's legacy and support his family during this difficult time. The Terrell Police Department also announced plans to collect Christmas gifts for Candanoza's young daughter, ensuring she feels the love and support of the community.
