Demonstrators met outside the Tesla dealership in Southlake Saturday to protest Elon Musk and his role as the head of the Department of Government Efficiency. The protest in Southlake Town Square was one of more than 200 scheduled across the country.
Protesters carried signs reading, "Defund Elon," and "No one voted for Elon Musk." They chanted, "Save the USA," and "Elon Musk has got to go."
Across the street, counterdemonstrators carried Donald Trump signs and flags.
"They have no point of view," one said. "They're nothing but a bunch of liars."
Protesters also met outside the Tesla dealership in Austin. Last weekend, the Austin Police Department's bomb squad responded to a report of hazardous material and dismantled the material with no injuries or damage.
At the demonstrations in Southlake Saturday, both sides yelled at each other across the street several times, but the events stayed peaceful.
Former Mayor John Huffman posted on Facebook about helping cut the ribbon on the dealership, writing he was confident "it would be a perfect fit for the environment - a high end luxury brand full of cache and pride."
"In the years since, nothing has changed my opinion - Tesla remains an incredible brand that I am very proud has chosen to continue to do business in Southlake," he wrote.
Huffman says a "fake grassroots group funded by shady out-of-town sources" organized the protest, urging people to visit all businesses in Southlake Town Square.
