Two Texans who were being monitored for possible exposure to hantavirus have completed their observation period without showing any signs of infection, according to state health officials.
The Texas Health and Human Services Department said the individuals finished a 42-day monitoring period and remained symptom-free throughout the observation process.
The state's chief epidemiologist thanked the two Texans for their cooperation with public health officials during the monitoring period.
The two individuals had been aboard the cruise ship MV Hondius, where at least 18 people were exposed to the virus. Three people linked to the exposure died, according to health officials.
Hantavirus is a rare but potentially serious disease that can spread to humans through contact with infected rodents or their droppings, urine or saliva.
Texas health officials said no additional concerns related to the two monitored Texans have been identified.
