With a global semi-conductor chip shortage afflicting the business world, Dallas-based Texas Instruments is buying itself a chip factory in Utah.
Yesterday, TI announced its acquisition of a Micron Technology semiconductor plant in a Salt Lake City suburb.
The company says this $900 million purchase will have no impact on the planned expansion of its campus in Richardson where equipment will be installed next year, with chip production beginning in the 3rd or 4th quarter.
In releasing the information, TI's chairman, president and CEO Rich Templeton says this investment "continues to strengthen our competitive advantage in manufacturing and technology and is part of our long-term capacity planning."
