Texas Land Commissioner Bush mulls political challenge to AG Paxton

George P. Bush, the state's land commissioner is thinking of running for Texas Attorney General.

Mr. Bush told a radio show he is seriously considering challenging fellow Republican Ken Paxton.

Paxton, the two term incumbent, has been under indictment since before he won his office for securities fraud. Last year he was accused of abusing his office and more.

SMU political analyst Cal Jillson says Bush would run on the same conservative ideals espoused by Paxton. "I think that George P. Bush has been a little lackluster himself as Land Commissioner. He is not a terribly strong personality, but I do think Ken Paxton is vulnerable."

Jillson says Governor Abbott and  Lt Gov Patrick have been reluctant to call for Paxton's resignation or "to challenge him directly.  Their hope is either the courts take Paxton out or the voters do in 2022."

Bush is the nephew of George W Bush and the grandson of George HW Bush.  Jillson says George P. Bush is perhaps the more prominent member of his famous family to back former president Trump.
