Texas Medical Association urging schools to use COVID rapid tests on students

The Texas Medical Association is now urging schools to use rapid tests on students.

Because the number of coronavirus cases in children continues to rise, Texas physicians recommend schools use rapid antigen testing to detect early signs of coronavirus infection among students and staff.

Dr. Charles Lerner is a member of the TMA's Covid 19 Task Force and says it adds an extra level of protection.

Lerner says the test is a lot better than simply taking a students temperature which only detects someone who is symptomatic. Rapid antigen testing uses a nasal or throat swab test that can produce results in minutes.

Lerner says increased testing, along with the isolation of infectious students and school staff, will help to reduce everybody's anxiety level in dealing with the potential spread of the virus.
