Texas Motor Speedway President announces retirement

Fort Worth (1080 KRLD) - He built one of the pre-eminent race tracks in the country. He's been the president at Texas Motor Speedway for a quarter of a century, and now Eddie Gossage says it's time to turn the place over to someone else.

Eddie announced his retirement this week, which will come after the next NASCAR All-Star race at TMS on June 13.

He talked with David Rancken and Kristin Diaz on the KRLD Afternoon News.

"This is the 25th season of Texas Motor Speedway and it just is a good bookend," said Gossage. "I've lived and breathed this place for 27 and a half years, its been 24/7 on the job and that's probably a good time frame to wrap it all up with a big exclamation point with the NASCAR All-Star race coming up on June 13th."

One thing he's very proud of is how TMS managed to team up with the Denton County Health Department to vaccinate around a half million people.

It's the biggest vaccination hub in the country.

He also says he won't be going away. He's just leaving his baby for someone else to take care of. He'll be back with his family
