More than 3 million customer accounts may have been compromised in a data breach involving a vendor that processes hunting and fishing license sales for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, state officials said.
The department said the incident was detected by the Texas Cyber Command and involved unauthorized access to personal information belonging to people who applied for hunting and fishing licenses in Texas.
According to the agency, the exposed information may include email addresses, home addresses, phone numbers and driver's license information. Officials said more than 3 million accounts were affected by the breach.
The department said no dates of birth, Social Security numbers or credit card information were accessed.
State officials said they are working with the vendor to strengthen security measures and investigate the incident.
Texas Parks and Wildlife is notifying affected individuals and offering one year of free credit-monitoring services to those whose information may have been exposed.
The agency did not immediately identify the vendor involved or say when the unauthorized access occurred. Officials said the investigation remains ongoing.
