The Texas Rangers open their Cactus League schedule today, meeting the Kansas City Royals at their Spring Training home in Surprise, Arizona.

Texas will send at least four pitchers to the hill; Glenn Otto, Owen White, Jose Leclerc and Chase Lee.

Otto was in the Rangers rotation last year while LeClerc made 39 appearances, all in relief.

White made stops in High Class A-Hickory and Double-A Frisco while Lee had 51 appearances in Frisco and Triple-A Round Rock.

Today's game begins at 2:05 Texas time.

On Saturday the Rangers and Royals meet again. The Texas pitchers will be Joe Barlow, Jonathan Hernandez, Kyle Cody, Spencer Howard, Dane Dunnng and Nathan Eovaldi, recently acquired from the Red Sox.

Eovaldi and Nolan Ryan share the distinction of being the only MLB players ever from Alvin, Texas.

Yesterday, the Rangers' main off-season acquisition, free agent pitcher Jacob DeGrom, threw his first bullpen session of the Spring. Last week, his bullpen was scrubbed due to concern over some tightness in his left side.

After doing some work on flat ground since then, DeGrom got up on the mound in Surprise Thursday and threw 22 pitches, ten from half-way up the hill and then a dozen from the rubber.

Pitching coach Mike Maddux says the missed time should not stop DeGrom from getting ready for the season.
