Texas Roadhouse says a viral social media story that employees discriminated against Black customers and tampered with food is a hoax, and that an internal review found no evidence it happened.

The rumor spread last week from screenshots of an alleged Facebook post in a group called “White and proud,” USA TODAY and Snopes reported. The post claimed white servers at Texas Roadhouse and Logan’s Roadhouse had a secret group discussing spitting in or touching food served to Black diners. No restaurant location or employee was named. The original post was deleted.

Travis Doster, the chain’s chief communications officer, told USA TODAY on Aug. 25 there is “zero evidence” the claims are true and that the Facebook user likely does not exist. “We believe this is 100% a hoax,” he said. The company told the Houston Chronicle its investigation and outside sources “firmly point to this being an online hoax.”

Texas Roadhouse posted on TikTok on Aug. 23 that the accusation was “completely unfounded” and that it does not tolerate discrimination. It hired a third-party firm to try to find the source. Officials said they have not identified any current or former employees tied to the posts and have not disciplined anyone.

Snopes rated the organized-tampering claim unfounded and reported the “White and proud” page was described as satirical. A user who helped the rumor spread later said it appeared to be a hoax and apologized, Rolling Out reported.

The Kentucky-based steakhouse has many North Texas locations. The company said it remains committed to treating every guest with respect. Health departments have not announced related inspections tied to the posts.
