Few Internet users had heard of Fastly - until Tuesday morning.
The San Francisco-based cloud service company said a technical issue temporarily brought down some of the world's highest-traffic websites, including Amazon, CNN, the New York Times and CBS News.
CNET Tech Expert Ian Sherr told KRLD News that these large retailers and media companies find it is less expensive to rely on Fastly to handle their content delivery networks (CDNs).
When Fastly experienced problems early Tuesday, the websites were off-line for a time. Sherr said it appears there was no hack related to the issues.
