Governor Greg Abbott is sending in extra resources to help now with areas facing a high risk of wildfires.

This affects areas including: Amarillo, Lubbock, Wichita Falls, Midland and Alpine. Those areas have high winds and dry conditions. Adam Turner is with the Texas A & M Forest Service.

Turner says, "We've had a wet winter that has led to increased levels of grass in these areas. That winter storm that we had in the middle of February froze all that grass and dried it out. This suddenly made it available as a fuel source for wildfires."

Turner says strike teams with fire engines, and bulldozers are preparing for the threat of wildfires. He also says if you spot a wildfire, you are urged to contact local authorities immediately. A quick response can help save lives and property.
