Two Dallas firefighters are recovering at Parkland hospital with injuries from an overnight fire that officials say was started on purpose.
Officials say 29-year-old Diana Davila, the only person inside the home, admitted to starting the fire with a cigarette. The extreme heat of the fire was too much for a group of firefighters responding to fight the blaze.
Firefighters started trying to retreat, but one got disoriented and issued a "mayday" call, indicating they were in trouble. The firefighters were able to make it out within 10 minutes of the mayday call.
Three firefighters had to be taken to the hospital with burns. One was treated and released but the other two had to be admitted. Fortunately, officials say none of the injuries are life threatening.
Dallas Fire Chief Dominique Artis says they're all in good spirits, healing and will be able to return to duty.
Ms. Davila was arrested at the scene. Police say charges are pending.
