A trial begins Monday for a Tennessee man accused of driving to Dallas to kill his ex-girlfriend's husband in a 2020 murder-for-hire plot.
Detectives say a man identified as Darrin Lopez drove from Tennessee to Dallas almost three years ago to kill James Faith outside of his Oak Cliff home.
Why? Because Faith's wife Jennifer, and also Lopez's former high school and college girlfriend, had convinced him that her husband was physically and sexually abusing her.
Reports say while James Faith was walking their dog, investigators say Lopez shot him seven times from behind and took off.
But it turned out that Jennifer was the mastermind of the plan and wanted to get more than $600,000 in life insurance and move in with Lopez.
Jennifer Faith admitted guilt and is serving life in federal prison.
Today is jury selection for Lopez who has pleaded not guilty. His defense team says Lopez is a former soldier who suffered a traumatic brain injury in Iraq.
