"Cowan Place is the first development out of six in our Choice Neighborhood Revitalization for the Stop Six community," says Mary-Margaret Lemons, the president of Fort Worth Housing Solutions. "It's 174 units of affordable housing for seniors 62 and over."

Cowan Place will replace the now-razed Cavile Place Apartments.

"Those were 300 public housing units built in 1954 that were just outdated and really not a place (where) we wanted our families to live," says Lemons.

Cowan Place will feature a contemporary design that will include ground-level amenities.

"Not only will it be apartments, but it will also have some communal space on the ground level for things like entertainment with the theater, library, billiards, and also space for a medical doctor to come on site or a nurse practitioner to have checkups for our residents," Lemons says.

The goal is for the first residents to begin moving in two years from now.

"We anticipate the construction to last 24 months and to lease up that property in 2023," says Lemons.
