Some residents of Trophy Club say a town councilwoman should resign. Stacey Bauer has served on the council since 2023.

May 8, a grand jury in Denton County indicted Bauer on charges of property theft between $30,000 and $150,000. Prosecutors say she embezzled money and equipment from youth football and track and field programs where she served as president and treasurer between 2021 and 2023.

At a meeting Monday night, two residents called for her to resign from the council.

"This is very serious, and I would like to see her step down," one man said.

"This request is not made lightly," another said. "It is based on significant loss of public confidence in her ability to serve our community."

Bauer did not attend the meeting Monday night, but after her indictment, she sent a statement denying the accusations.

"I am confident that the truth in the form of facts and evidence will maintain my innocence. The perpetrators of this character attack on my family began long before I became a councilwoman for the Town of Trophy Club, Texas. This is the same pattern of behavior these litigants used in a civil action for money against my family that began in 2023 and ended in a dismissal in 2025," she wrote.
