President Donald Trump has confirmed that the Republican Party will hold its first-ever national midterm convention in Dallas on September 9 and 10 at the American Airlines Center.
The two-day event aims to rally Republican voters and candidates ahead of the November 3 midterm elections, as the party works to maintain its slim majorities in Congress. Trump made the announcement Tuesday on his Truth Social platform, calling it a “truly Historic Event” that “has never been done before.”
In his post, Trump described the gathering as a chance to celebrate the “Great American comeback,” highlighting achievements in tax policy, border security and economic growth. He said the convention would feature “hardworking Americans, our Great Innovators, Entrepreneurs, Manufacturers, First Responders, and Job Creators” and promised “lots of Great Entertainment” and “a RALLY like none other.”

The Republican National Committee paved the way for the event by amending its rules during its winter meeting in January to allow a convention in a midterm year. National party conventions have traditionally been held only during presidential election cycles. Democrats considered a similar gathering but tabled the idea earlier this year.
Dallas has been under consideration for months. In March, national GOP officials toured the American Airlines Center as a potential host site. The choice places Texas at the center of the national spotlight, particularly with the competitive U.S. Senate race between Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton and Democratic state Rep. James Talarico.
The announcement drew quick reactions across party lines. Some Democrats have dismissed the gathering as political theater, while Republicans view it as an opportunity to energize the base and highlight the party’s record before voters head to the polls this fall.
The convention is expected to draw party leaders, elected officials, candidates and supporters to downtown Dallas for speeches, policy discussions and entertainment over the two days.
