President Donald Trump returns to Texas today to campaign in San Antonio for Republican Senate candidate Ken Paxton and congressional candidate Carlos De La Cruz. He is expected to address the crowd at Freeman Coliseum around 6 p.m.
The rally is at 3201 E. Houston St., on the city’s east side, the same venue that hosts the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo. Doors open at 2:30 p.m. Paxton announced the event Monday on X, writing that he was joining the president “to keep Texas red and keep America First.” Tickets were offered through the Republican Party’s event page.
MySA reported that Trump is expected to land after 3 p.m. at Kelly Field, part of Joint Base San Antonio. The Federal Aviation Administration issued a VIP movement notice that temporarily restricts flights over the field. A Secret Service representative said people heading to the rally, and drivers passing through the area, should expect extra security and traffic delays before and after the visit. Ticket holders were told to arrive early and follow law enforcement directions.

Two protests are planned outside. Bexar County Democrats scheduled a demonstration from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Houston Street, across from the coliseum parking lots. The San Antonio Party for Socialism and Liberation planned a separate protest at 5 p.m. at Coca-Cola Place and Houston Street.
The Texas Tribune reported that this is Trump’s third Texas trip in about a month, after the Republican midterm convention in Dallas and an Oct. 1 stop at the Peterbilt plant in Denton. At that plant, he praised Paxton and also said the attorney general “could be a pain in the ass sometimes.” Paxton is running against Democrat James Talarico, who is off the trail this week with the flu. De La Cruz, an Air Force veteran and the brother of U.S. Rep. Monica De La Cruz, is the Republican nominee in the 35th Congressional District against Democrat Johnny Garcia, a Bexar County sheriff’s deputy. San Antonio also sits in the competitive 23rd District.
Trump has lost Bexar County all three times he has been on the Texas ballot. His best showing there was 2024, at about 44.5 percent.
