Two North Texas residents have been arrested on murder charges in connection with a fentanyl poisoning death in Prosper, police said.
Prosper police said officers responded earlier this year to a residence in the 100 block of West Sixth Street, where they found an adult Prosper man dead inside the home.
An investigation by the department's Drug Interdiction and Criminal Enforcement detectives determined the victim died after ingesting a fatal dose of fentanyl.
Investigators identified 30-year-old Jessica Shirey of Wylie as the person who allegedly provided the fentanyl that caused the victim's death. She was arrested May 27 and booked into the Collin County Detention Facility on a murder charge.
As the investigation continued, detectives determined Shirey had allegedly obtained the fentanyl from 32-year-old Joey Jimenez of Dallas. With assistance from the Dallas Police Department, Prosper detectives executed arrest and search warrants at Jimenez's residence on June 11. Jimenez was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Collin County Detention Facility on a murder charge.
Police said the arrests were made under Texas House Bill 6, which took effect Sept. 1, 2023, and allows individuals to be charged with murder if they knowingly manufacture or deliver fentanyl that results in another person's death.
The investigation remains ongoing.
