Two people have died in a late night high-speed street take-over and crash in Fort Worth.

Late Sunday night police say several cars were showing exhibitions of speed on White Settlement Road near Henderson. At high-speed, a car veered out of control, crashed-and-rolled, landing on its roof in the parking lot of the Crash Brothers Paint-and-Body shop.

"They activated their overhead emergency lights briefly," said Ofc. Jimmy Pollozani. "The Camaro turned off its lights and sped off eastbound on White Settlement Rd. Officers were not in pursuit of that vehicle."

A short time later, officers found a Camaro that crashed near Jacksboro Hwy.

"Officers during the course of the investigation determined that that was the Camaro that took off from the actual street racing event," said Ofc. Pollozani. "The Camaro lost control and crashed after fleeing the scene."

There were four people inside the vehicle at the time. Two people were killed and two others were injured. Their conditions have not been released.

"The driver and the rear driver passenger were pronounced deceased on scene by medical professionals," Pollozani said. "The two other occupants were transported to local hospitals for medical treatment."

Pollozani said street racing and reckless driving remain big problems in Fort Worth.

"We're in the early stages right now of coming up with the unit to combat this street racing takeover," Pollozani said, "but we're doing the best with the resources that we have to try to combat this and tackle this head-on."
