Two people are in the hospital after a car vaulted off Highway 161 in Irving and landed on Highway 114 below, a drop of about 15 feet.
Police say the car rolled down an embankment and landed on its roof which was smashed flat. The driver and passenger had to be pried from the mangled wreckage but police say their injuries did not appear to be life-threatening. The car is a total loss.
Investigators are still deciding if intoxication or speed, or both, were factors.
Irving police say they were really busy Saturday night. They had more than 70 traffic stops, responded to four major accidents, made five DWI arrests and one for unlawfully carrying a weapon.
In one case, a man was arrested for going over 100 mph and blasting right past a marked police car. When he got pulled over, he had an open container of alcohol. And he does not have a valid driver license, either.
