Two suspects arrested after U-Haul chase in Garland

GARLAND (KRLD) - Two men are facing theft charges in Garland after a chase that started on Dodson Road and ended in Dallas.

Police got a 9-1-1 call overnight that someone was stealing roofing supplies from a home construction site in Garland and loading them into a U-Haul truck.  Police responded to the scene at around 12:30am.

"Immediately the U-Haul took off, leaving one person behind," said Garland Police Lt. Pedro Barineau. That suspect, 37-year-old Gerald Milton Winters of Mesquite, was arrested at the scene. He's charged with theft between $750 and $2,500.

The driver of the U-Haul led police on a chase through Garland and into Dallas. One passenger in the U-Haul was dropped off in the Deep Ellum neighborhood and is still at large. Police describe that suspect as a woman with long black hair. The driver continued through Dallas before stopping on S. Corinth Street.

The Dallas Police Department's helicopter was deployed to help track the U-Haul during the case.

"DPD Air One was assisting us in the pursuit," said Lt. Barineau, "so our officers were able to back off. When the U-Haul came to a stop they were able to track the driver to a location where Dallas Police Officers were able to take him into custody."

Police identified the driver as 29-year-old Ronnie Dale Sullivan of Dallas. He's charged with evading arrest and theft. Police also say he had an outstanding warrant out of Grand Prairie.

Investigators did recover roofing materials in the back of the U-Haul they believe were stolen from the construction site in Garland.
