Two-thirds of adults "significantly stressed" about the election

According to a survey by the American Psychological Associaton, 68% of all adults say that the 2020 presidential election is a significant stressor for them.

That's up 16% from 4 years ago.

"2020 has been a very challenging year for every person," says Licensed Professional Counselor Leigh Richardson with the Brain Performance Center in Dallas. "I think most of us are still stuck in that fight or flight mode. So I think everything is more intense."

According to the survey, the anxiety doesn't differ much for Democrats and Republicans. And no matter who wins, about half the country will be happy, and about half will be disappointed.

Richardson says make sure stop, look, and listen before you have a reaction to the result.

"Be kind to people during this time," Richardson says. "If you can be kind to someone during this time, that's a win-win strategy."
