The Texas Department of Transportation is approving almost $300 million in federal funding for 73 new bike and pedestrian projects statewide, including several major improvements across North Texas.

The agency announced the awards this week, directing roughly $54.6 million to the Dallas–Fort Worth region for new shared-use paths, sidewalks, and safety upgrades.

One of the largest local investments is a $25 million shared-use trail planned along the DART Silver Line corridor, intended to connect multiple cities and transit stations.

Other funded projects include sidewalk expansions, safer street crossings, and trail extensions aimed at improving mobility options for cyclists and pedestrians.

TxDOT says the projects were selected through its Transportation Alternatives program, which focuses on improving non-motorized transportation and reducing safety risks.

Construction timelines will vary by community, but local officials say the new funding will help close long-standing gaps in North Texas’ trail and sidewalk networks.
