A North Texas Uber driver suspected of sexually assaulting a child last year is injured after being shot by law enforcement during an attempted arrest Tuesday morning in Houston, officials say.
The Collin County Sheriff's Department had been looking for Robert Johnson since he cut off his ankle monitor back in August. They put out a Be On The Lookout, or BOLO, last month and said they got a lot of leads.
One of those leads led police to Houston, where members of the Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force police found Johnson Tuesday morning at a McDonald's. During the attempted arrest, he was injured in a shooting.
No details about how it happened were immediately available. Johnson is expected to recover from his injuries and no officers were hurt.
Johnson is accused of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl he picked up in Frisco last July.
“This case highlights the power of community involvement and strong law enforcement partnerships,” Collin County Sheriff Jim Skinner said. “The public’s assistance played a critical role in this investigation, and we appreciate every tip received. We also want to recognize the outstanding efforts of the U.S. Marshals Service and the Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force in bringing Johnson into custody.”
