The US Army said it had fired or suspended 14 officers and enlisted soldiers at Fort Hood and ordered policy changes to address leadership failures at the Texas base that contributed to a widespread pattern of violence including murder, sexual assaults.
Two general officers are among those being removed from their jobs by the Secretary of the Army. This comes in the aftermath of a year that saw 25 soldiers assigned to Fort Hood die due to suicide, homicide or accidents, including the death of Specialist Vanessa Guillen.
Military officials are also ordering policy changes to address chronic leadership failures at the base that fostered a widespread pattern of violence including murder, sexual assaults and harassment.
"This report, without a doubt, will cause the Army to change our culture," Army Secretary Ryan McCarthy says, after independent review of command climate and culture at Fort Hood. "The tragic death of Vanessa Guillen...forced us to take a critical look at our systems."
