The University of Texas at Austin has delivered a cease and desist notice to one of its fraternities following a wrongful death lawsuit.

The lawsuit, filed last week, claimed a Houston-area UT student died by suicide after being subjected to horrific hazing.

"UT Austin is committed to providing a safe educational environment for everyone and does not tolerate hazing by any group or individual affiliated with the University," the University said in a statement. "All such allegations receive the utmost attention and thorough investigation."

The Alpha Nu chapter of Sigma Chi must cease all organization activities until the University fully investigates the allegations.

Last week's lawsuit accuses the chapter of hazing that involved forcing the 18-year-old to drink dangerous amounts of alcohol, forced to endure whippings and have a staple gun used on his hip, forced to be burned with cigarettes, and was forced to use highly addictive drugs.
