Firefighters are remaining in northwest Dallas where a vacant hotel building caught fire overnight.
Just before 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, officials say fire crews were sent to the now-closed Love Field Hotel & Suites on Mockingbird near I-35E. They found fires going on separate floors and quickly went to work to douse the flames.
Because it's a 13-floor building, it took awhile and more manpower was called in. Eventually, the fire went to four alarms.
Dallas Fire-Rescue says several homeless people were escorted out the building and off the property. Investigators say, "the cause can most likely be attributed to those occupying the building." However, for now, the cause is officially listed as undetermined.
Late Monday night, a separate fire was extinguished at the five-floor building next door. In that case there were multiple homeless people in that building as well. One of those people was taken to the hospital with smoke inhalation.
