Vice President JD Vance is in North Texas today for a campaign rally in Weatherford as Republicans make a final push five days before the midterm election.
The event is set for JRJ Construction at 1140 Ric Williamson Memorial Highway. Doors open at 10 a.m., the program begins at 12:15 p.m., and Vance is scheduled to speak at 1:50 p.m., according to the Texas Republican Party. Attendees must register in advance through the party’s website.
Weatherford police have warned drivers to expect significant traffic delays and temporary road closures. Ric Williamson Highway will be closed from Interstate 20 to Greenwood Road, Ranger Highway will be closed to through traffic between Greenwood Cutoff Road and Greenwood Road, and eastbound Mineral Wells Highway traffic will shift to the inside lane. The restrictions run from about 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
The City of Weatherford has advised residents to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and use alternate routes. Additional temporary closures could occur as the vice president’s motorcade moves through the area.
This marks Vance’s third campaign stop in Texas in roughly a month, following rallies in Harlingen and Tyler. The visit comes during the final days of early voting, which ends Friday, with Election Day on Tuesday, November 3. President Donald Trump is also campaigning in Texas this week with stops in Lubbock and Corpus Christi.
The Weatherford rally is part of the Republican effort to boost turnout in solidly red Parker County ahead of contests that include the U.S. Senate race between Republican Ken Paxton and Democrat James Talarico.
Drivers in the Weatherford area should expect delays this afternoon around the JRJ Construction site.
