Nine structures made of canned goods have gone on display at North East Mall to benefit Tarrant Area Food Bank. "Canstruction" runs through October 9.

The displays were built by architects, contractors, designers, engineers and students from North Texas. Participants include several local businesses, TCC South Campus and Uplift Summit International Preparatory High School.

Some items are Star Wars themed. One display, "Use the Chili, Luke," was made from 2,688 cans and shows an X-Wing "built in attack position as we are entering into the battle to end hunger."

"These are cool. I like them," one man who was taking a picture said. "Very creative; I never would have thought of anything like that."

Another is called, "Jawa-nt to End Hunger" and shows a Jawa settlement made from 2,907 cans.

Another man walking by stopped to take pictures, saying the displays will draw more attention to the food bank's needs than a sign or billboard.

"I'm a huge Star Wars fan, so that's cool," he said. "I just saw all the Ranch Style Beans cans and thought it was weird. But it's cool."

The display is open at North East Mall through October 9. People can vote using a QR Code and making a $5 donation when selecting their favorite. More information is available at http://tafb.org/events/canstruction/ .
