Buffalo Bills linebacker and DeSoto native Von Miller turned himself in to police Thursday after a warrant for his arrest was issued in Dallas County earlier in the day.
Miller was wanted for a family violence incident that was reported on Wednesday. The notification, obtained by KRLD News, said Miller’s girlfriend reported she was strangled and that Miller was not there by the time police arrived.
"Typically when there is an arrest warrant issued a potential criminal defendant will get a lawyer and turn themselves in so that they won't get embarrassed by a sheriff's or constables showing up and putting them in cuffs and leading them away," sports attorney Rogge Dunn, who is not affiliated with the case said.
Miller posted $5,000 bond and was released Thursday night. He turned himself into Glenn Heights police, who took him to the DeSoto Police Department for booking and processing, police said.
“Von Miller turned himself in today at the Glenn Heights Police Department on an outstanding arrest warrant issued by the Dallas County Sheriff's Office," Glenn Heights police said in a written statement. "Mr. Miller was transported to the DeSoto Regional Jail where he was booked in without incident, posted bond, and released.”
Miller was born in DeSoto in 1989 and played football and ran track at DeSoto High School. Then he played at Texas A&M and was drafted by the Broncos in 2011. He played one season for the Rams in 2021 and has been with the Buffalo Bills since 2022. The Cowboys play the Bills in Buffalo on Dec. 17.
