Wells Fargo has broken ground on a campus in Irving's Las Colinas development. The project will cover 22 acres near Irving Convention Center.

The campus will include two ten story buildings totalling 844,000 square feet. Wells Fargo will also build a 4,000 car parking garage across Promenade Parkway with a pedestrian bridge.

"Our presence in the Dallas/Fort Worth region is significant, and it's been that way for a long period of time," says Wells Fargo Chief Executive Charlie Scharf.

Scharf says the campus will ultimately house 3,000 workers. He says the facility will give the company a greater ability to bring employees together. Scharf says the campus will help Wells Fargo meet the needs of a growing market in Texas.

"We're very, very thoughtful about where we want to add our resources," he says.

Irving approved $30 million in tax incentives for the project. Mayor Rick Stopfer says that was the most ever for a single project.

"Our city has the reputation of being the 'headquarters of headquarters,'" says Irving Mayor Rick Stopfer. "This is something we take very seriously."

Stopfer says he and city leaders have toured other Wells Fargo campuses to ensure Irving could provide the needs of employees and customers.

"We are excited about the success we have within our community," he says. "We are proud of the success, but it takes a team. It's a team of our city council, our city staff, our investors, our brokers, and our companies."

Governor Greg Abbott attended the groundbreaking, saying Irving and Las Colinas were able to provide a skilled workforce that would meet the needs of a financial services company.

"You all are an economic powerhouse for the State of Texas," he says. "You're a magnet for economic development projects. What you do adds secret sauce to the success we are able to achieve in the state."

The campus should open in 2025.
